There is a fascinating story to the Cambodia gambling halls that sit just across the dividing line from nearby Thailand, where gambling hall betting is not allowed. Eight gambling halls are anchored in a relatively tiny location in the metropolis of Poipet in Cambodia. This collection of Cambodia gambling dens is in an excellent spot, a three to four hour travel from Bangkok and Macao, the two largest gaming centers in Asia. Cambodia gambling dens do a huge business with Thai workers and visitors from Malaysia, Japan, South Korea, and Singapore, with just a few Westerners. The amazing income accrued from the gambling dens ranges from 7.5 million dollars to over 12.5 million dollars, and there are a number of limitations requirements for gambling hall ownership. Ownership is assumed to be mainly Thai; however, financing sources are vague. The borders are officially open from 9:00 a.m. to 1700, and despite the fact visas are for all intents and purposes necessary to pass, there are methods and means around this, as is real of many border crossings.

The initial Cambodia gambling halls premiered in Phnom Penh in the mid nineties, but were required to close in 1998, leaving only one gambling den in the capital, the Naga Resort. The Naga, a docked barge gambling den, contains one hundred and fifty slots and 60 tables. The Naga gambling hall never closes with forty two tables of mini-baccarat banque, four tables of chemin de fer, ten of roulette, two of Caribbean Stud Poker, and one each of Pai-Gow and Tai-Sai.

The original casino in Poipet, the Holiday Palace, premiered in 1999 and the Golden Crown soon opened. A total of 150 slots and 5 tables at the Golden Crown and 104 slots and 68 table games at the Holiday Palace. The newer Holiday Palace Casino and Resort highlights three hundred slot machine games and seventy table games and the Princess Hotel and Casino, also in Poipet, has 166 slot machine games and ninety six table games, including eighty seven baccarat chemin de fer (the most beloved game), Fan Tan, and Pai Gow. Additionally, there is the Casino Tropicana, with 135 one armed bandits and 66 of the normal gaming tables, as well as a single table of Casino Stud Poker. One more of the eight casinos in Poipet, again in a hotel, is the Princess Casino with one hundred and sixty six slot machine games and 97 table games. The Star Vegas Casino is is located in an all-around vacation and hotel compound that highlights a number of amenities aside from the gambling den, which provides 10,000 sq.ft. of one hundred and thirty one armed bandits and eighty eight gaming tables.
