There is a captivating story to the Cambodia gambling halls that sit just over the dividing line from neighboring Thailand, in which gambling hall betting is not allowed. Eight gambling halls are anchored in a relatively small space in the city of Poipet in Cambodia. This conclave of Cambodia gambling dens is in an excellent area, a 3 to four hour drive from Bangkok and Macao, the two largest gambling centers in Asia. Cambodia gambling dens do a huge business with Thai blue-collar workers and visitors from Malaysia, Japan, South Korea, and Singapore, with only very couple of Westerners. The astonishing capital acquired from the gambling halls ranges from $7.5 million to over 12.5 million, and there are a number of restrictions requirements for gambling den ownership. Ownership is presumed to be largely Thai; however, financing sources are vague. The borders are ceremoniously open from 0900 to 5:00 p.m., and although visas are supposedly necessary to pass, there are methods around this, as is accurate of many border crossings.

The original Cambodia gambling halls opened in Phnom Penh in the mid nineties, but were forced to close in 1998, leaving only one gambling hall in the capital, the Naga Resort. The Naga, a stationary barge gambling den, highlights 150 slot machine games and sixty tables. The Naga gambling den never closes with forty two tables of mini-baccarat, 4 tables of 21, 10 of roulette, 2 of Caribbean Stud Poker, and one each of Pai-Gow and Tai-Sai.

The first gambling den in Poipet, the Holiday Palace, opened in 1999 and the Golden Crown quickly followed. A total of 150 slots and five table games at the Golden Crown and one hundred and four slot machine games and 68 table games at the Holiday Palace. The newer Holiday Palace Casino and Resort contains three hundred slot machine games and 70 tables and the Princess Hotel and Casino, also in Poipet, has 166 slot machine games and 96 gaming tables, including eighty seven baccarat (the most dominant game), Fan Tan, and Pai Gow. Also, there is the Casino Tropicana, with one hundred and thirty five slot machines and sixty six of the common gaming tables, as well as a single table of Casino Stud Poker. One more of the eight gambling dens in Poipet, again in a motel, is the Princess Casino with 166 slot machine games and 97 games. The Star Vegas Casino is is located in a multinational vacation and hotel building that contains numerous amenities accompanying the casino, which houses 10,000 sq.ft. of one hundred and thirty slot machines and eighty eight table games.
